Willem Marx is an editor, writer, and translator who splits his time between Vicenza and Fort Lauderdale. He is associate editor of Electric Literature, where he acquires and edits essays and original short fiction for Recommended Reading, and is the Nonfiction Editor of Asymptote, an international journal dedicated to literary translation. He has worked with Jonathan Lethem, John Freeman, Shelley Fairweather-Vega, Peter Orner, Anne Higonnet, Case Q. Kerns, Peace Pyunghwa Lee, and Tobias Ryan, among many other distinguished writers and translators. His creative and critical writing has appeared in Asymptote, Recommended Reading, Necessary Fiction, Publisher’s Weekly, and elsewhere.

Willem’s editorial perspective is informed by the craft of translation, dramatic writing, and the previous roles he’s held across literature and theater. He was a bookseller and events manager at McNally Jackson and Paris’ Abbey Bookshop, an intern to W. W. Norton’s Alane Mason, an editor to playwright Adriano Shaplin, and has directed and stage managed Off-Off Broadway plays, including Circles by Gamal ElSawah.
